I pulled into to school this morning and I was quite surprised to find that there was almost no parking space available. A crowd of angry parents had gathered to see Sister Josephine about the recent administrative faux pas. She refused to come down out of her cells and face their wrath (big surprise there) and spent the day holed up with the other nuns. The parents camped out in the foyer and the office but it was in vain as Quasimodo kept to her belfry. Tomorrow is another day and they have vowed to return in greater numbers, and this time it will be with pitchforks and torches.
The sister who was to be Sister Josefiend's replacement has returned to Taipei, very upset. It seems, according to reliable sources, that Josefiend attacked her in front of all the other nuns for her support of the teacher's demands. She decided that she had enough of the preverication that prevades that specific group of nuns and headed home. The many lies have finally caught up with the Sister and it doesn't look like she can escape their consequences. I guess we're living in interesting times right now.
However, even if things sort themselves out many of the teachers don't know if they can return to their jobs next year after the way they've been treated. As it stands there will be no Grade 7 or 8 next year, because of insufficient enrollment (another of Sister Josephine's legacies), so we have to figure out what to do with our eldest son. KAS is out of the question because its tuition is almost twice what Dominican charges. Looks like homeschooling for the kids and only time for part time work for me. I don't want to give up my position at the university.
